USB Sofa, A Couch With a Different Type of Storage Space

Designed by Cabracega Studio, these four sofas in the images below are able to store… 14 GB of memory. They were especially designed for users to gather around and exchange information in a more unconventional way: through USB cables. The sofas were  made with built-in desks that can be removed in order to install the laptops. Little work groups can easily be formed this way and change data through a little network that the sofas provide. How does it work? The couches have a few USB cables connected to their storage system. When the users want to access the memory, they simply plug the cable into their computer. Sure, these couches aren’t exactly our idea of design at its best, but just imagine where this new tech idea could lead!- via

747 Jet Liner Bed

How’d you like to curl up for a nice nap inside the engine cowl of a 747? Well ask, and ye shall receive…

jet_engine_bed

The madmen over at MotoArt have taken the engine nacell from a decommissioned 747 jet engine and turned it curvy metal headboard. The bed has an 84″ diameter round mattress and boxspring that set perfectly inside the bifurcated engine jacket. And to make sure you don’t slice your head open on the aluminum edge, they’ve thoughtfully cover the sharp metal edges with some Plexiglas. For each bed, MotoArt cleans up the engine cowl’s paintjob and carefully polishes each one to a shiny mirror finish so you can look at yourself first thing in the morning.

Engine not included.

Above via technabob.com, following is the discription from the motoart

"Let our new 747 Jet Liner Bed take you "round the world". Round beds were popular in the 60's and are now making a comeback, as they are a refreshing alternative to the rectangular bed. Using an authentic 747 engine nacelle cowling as the headboard, MotoArt combines an 84" diameter round mattress and box spring for a perfect fit. This well traveled engine nacelle makes a very comfortable headboard and arm rest combination. The nacelle headboard finish is complete with acrylic automotive paint, mirror polished leading nose ring and green Plexiglas end caps for internal structure viewing."

The Bread Chair, A Little Slice of Seating Paradise

"I could eat - sandwiches of you..." Those of a certain age and a liking for late 70's British may be familiar with this tune from Godley & Creme's "L" album, and will recall the odd mental imagery induced by listening to it. Coming across the Bread Chair at the Rinkya Blog brought back those memories at full volume.

So what's the Bread Chair and, perhaps more importantly, how was the idea for it first conceived? As for the latter, I think we've all been there... opening up a freshly purchased bag of sliced white bread, reaching in for a couple of slices and marveling at their lush, springy consistency. If only they were bigger... MUCH bigger... bing!

Evidently the concept was a winner, since Japan's largest online retailer

, Rakuten, is fresh out of Bread Chairs. No matter, just like bread they'll bake up a bunch more - one hopes. In the meantime, we can at least imagine what planting your buns in THEIR buns must be like... probably the greatest thing since, well, you know. (via Tokyo Times, main image via Spluch)

For the more adventurous, a hamburger or garishly green melon bread model could be ideal.

Compact conviviality

Compact conviviality furniture

If restricted domestic spaces are the new indisputable trend, it doesn’t mean that we must say goodbye to the conviviality that us Mediterraneans are famous for, nor must we wave goodbye to good design.

Indeed, the designer’s creativity helps us with practical suggestions so that we need not deprive ourselves from the pleasure of a nice little dinner between good friends for the well-being of our spirit and sharing instinct… since 1953, year in which the Danish Hans Olsen designed the first of 5 “1 table+4 chairs” solutions to which this post is dedicated and of which you can see more pictures in the cut below.
